DEA National Drug Take Back Program – City of Oglethorpe

The City of Oglethorpe Police Department, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), is proud to participate in the National DEA Take Back Program during the month of April 2026.

This initiative is designed to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way for residents to dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications, while helping prevent drug misuse and protecting public safety.

Drop-Off Details:

  • Dates: Monday through Thursday, throughout April 2026
  • Time: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: City of Oglethorpe Police Department

What You Can Bring:

  • Unused or expired prescription medications
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Medications in original pill bottles or any secure container

Items NOT Accepted:

  • Needles or sharps
  • Liquid medications

Why This Matters:

  • Unused medications in the home can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose, and misuse
  • The nonmedical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most common form of drug abuse in the United States
  • A majority of teenagers who abuse prescription drugs obtain them from family members, friends, or unsecured medicine cabinets in their homes or relatives’ homes

Safe Disposal Matters:

  • Take-back programs are the safest and most effective way to dispose of medications
  • These programs help prevent drugs from being misused or entering the environment improperly
  • When take-back options are not available, proper disposal becomes more difficult and less secure

The City of Oglethorpe Police Department thanks all residents and community partners for their participation in this important effort to reduce the illegal use of prescription drugs.

Together, we can help keep our city, county, and community safe.
